Gianfranco Selgas is a scholar working on Latin American studies

I am a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at University College London (UCL). My research and teaching explore the cultural, media, and political ecology of nature extraction and energy consumption across Latin America and the Caribbean. It combines environmental and energy humanities approaches with cultural studies, environmental history, human geography, and political ecology. My research has been awarded the “Best Article on Venezuela Award (Humanities)” by the Venezuelan Studies Section of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) in 2021, and the Post-Doctoral Research Award by the Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS) in 2023. I am a member of the Petrocultures Research Group, an Associate Researcher at UCAB - Center for Humanistic Research and Education, Venezuela, and Guest Researcher at KTH Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Sciences and Engineering (SEED), Sweden. You can find my CV and publications, current research projects, and teaching here.
